Alabama, Day 1

I guess I should start with “Day -1”.

Victoria took me to the airport yesterday at 3pm. It’s always hard to say goodbye, even for the short term.

My first flight Houston was fine. On time, no problems. When I got to Houston, I had to walk from Terminal E -> Terminal B. Usually, in cases like this, I get to wherever I am going, then eat. I like to get to the gate just to be sure everything’s cool. You have to understand that Terminal E is the nice new terminal with all the bells and whistles. I didn’t think about that on my trek to Terminal B.

When I got to Terminal B, there was only 1 place to eat that was within reasonable distance from my gate. Suck. I got a crappily thrown together chef’s salad. Sigh.

My second flight (Houston -> Birmingham) sucked. It sucked hard. Firstly, it was one of those small planes with 1 seat, aisle, 2 seats. It was SO cramped. To boot, there were thunderstorms in the Texas area so, they had to get re-routed which took time. Then, when it was time to take off, we ended up being 15th in line. Overall, it was about an hour of delay. Normally, that isn’t bad if you’re sitting at the gate, but, when you are actually on the cramped plane, it really sucks. I was starting to feel a little claustrophobic on that flight.

Lastly, the ascent was kinda rough due to the thunderstorms.

When I landed, I got my bag and my car. I am driving a Jeep Compass. It’s a pretty nice car, but I guess it has a crappy engine b/c it’s a rental vehicle. Whatever. They also had NO GPS units. Argh. Thank goodness for my iPhone.

I got to the hotel and checked in about an hour later. This hotel is OK… good enough…

My room… love the colors…

After settling in, I spoke with Victoria for a little while as she was getting ready to go to sleep. Shortly after hanging up, I did the same. Apparently, the company I am visiting this week wasn’t expecting me until around noon, so I get to relax in my room for a little while. All in all, I am pretty nervous about this trip. I don’t feel that I am technically where I need to be with my knowledge of this product yet, but, I guess we will just see how it goes.

More later…
